Women have every bit as much potential as their male colleagues, and yet fewer find themselves in positions of leadership. Ahead of this year’s International Women’s Day, financial technology recruitment firm Harrington Starr looks to address this issue head-on, by holding an event on Tuesday 5 March.
In partnership with online trading provider IG Group, Harrington Starr will hold the International Women’s Day fintech event at Vintners’ Hall in London. This year, it will spotlight the barriers women face in the fintech industry and ask: are you ‘UnconventionALL’?
While the issues women face in the fintech industry and beyond come as no surprise, the issues still persist. In fact, female start-up founders attract just 1.9 per cent of the available funding from VCs – even though start-ups founded by women make more than twice as much revenue per dollar of invested capital, when compared to those founded by men.
Harrington Star revealed it is holding the event to present the current situation, which is far from balanced. By raising awareness of the issues, it will start to address them and present a new fairer future in fintech.
Attendees will also be free to take advantage of opportunities to network and get involved in activities including making pledges of their own.
Tackling key issues
Harrington Starr revealed it will bring ‘convention-breaking’ talks to the table at the the event on subjects including:
- ‘Being UnconventionALL’ – Payal Jain, managing director at business management consultant JCURV and chair of Women in Data, speaks to her own personal experiences of being unconventional in her work as a woman and how to make a lasting impact.
- ‘Hiring, the UnconventionALL Way’ – Harrington Starr’s own CCO, Nadia Edwards-Dashti, who also hosts the FinTech’s DEI Discussions podcast will spearhead a session on how to make sure future hires are truly ‘UnconventionALL’.
- ‘Gender Equality in Coding’ – Are you conscious of gender biases or imbalances in your workplace? Meri Williams, CTO of Pleo, takes to the podium to discuss this topic and what can be done to bring balance to the industry.
- ‘Cheerleaders for Success’ – Daniele Fiandaca, founder of Token Man Consulting, will also reveal what the firm is doing to foster better male allies in the workplace and be cheerleaders of successful female professionals.
