11:FS Reveals 2023 Fintech Award Winners


11:FS, the challenger consultancy producing digital propositions for banks across the globe, held the second annual edition of its award ceremony, as it looked to spotlight the financial services firms at the forefront of innovation. 

11:FS took to London to hand out awards across five different categories, to winners nominated by the industry and selected by a panel of industry experts.

Customer Awards

Customer experience and onboarding were the focus of the customer category, which boasted a panel of four experts:

  • Benjamin Ensor, strategy director at 11:FS
  • Will Jones, executive creative director at 11:FS
  • Joe Colchester, head of product at 11:FS Pulse
  • Sara Castelhano, co-head of payments and commerce solutions for EMEA at JP Morgan
Best experience design: consumer

Winner: Nude, the financial firm helping people in the UK build their first home fund

Best experience design: business

Winner: Stripe, the multinational financial services and software as a service company

Best onboarding

Winner: Chip, the investing and savings app

Purpose Awards

Ethical finance was placed at the forefront of the purpose category, in which the winners were selected by the same experts from 11:FS, this time joined by:

  • Pat Patel, executive director of Elevandi, a non-profit organisation set up by the Monetary Authority of Singapore
Fintech for good

Winner: Espeo Software, a boutique ‘one-stop shop’ for fintech

Financial wellbeing

Winner: Dave, the fintech banking app

Technology Awards

Technological innovation was positioned at the forefront of the next category, in which a new panel judged nominees:

  • Ewan Silver, CTO of 11:FS
  • David Barton-Grimley, strategy director of BaaS and embedded finance at 11:FS
  • Stathis Onasoglou, field CTO of fintech for Google Cloud
Best Technology as an Enabler

Winner: Taktile, a software platform enabling businesses to run and evaluate automated decision flows

Best use of AI

Winner: HSBC, the British bank

Impact Awards

The biggest financial game changers were given awards throughout this category which also included a reward for the most progressive regulation. This time the panel consisted of:

  • David M. Brear, CEO and co-founder of 11:FS
  • Kate Moody, strategy director of customer experience at 11:FS
  • Derya Düner, EVP QNB at Finansbank
Consumer game changer

Winner: Chase (UK), the digital bank

Business game changer

Winner: Wise, the UK-based foreign exchange fintech firm

Most progressive regulation

Winner: Electronic Trade Documents Act 2023, making provisions about electronic trade documents.

People

11:FS inducted three individuals into its Hall of Fame, which celebrates those who have significantly helped improve the financial industry.

Anne Boden: After founding Starling Bank in 2015, she guided it to become one of the first neobanks to reach profitability while also establishing it as a leading UK neobank for retail and small business customers.

Sitoyo Lopokoiyit: He helped M-Pesa reach more than 51 million customers across seven markets, moving the dial significantly for financial inclusion in the region.

Sopnendu Mohanty: He changed the way the Monetary Authority of Singapore works, and developed the role of the regulator to foster greater innovation across financial services in Asia.
